Lots of Vettes have the 4 barrel exhaust, doesn’t help identify the model. That ZL1 must have some goodies if he is even close to you.

6-7 car lengths back and loosing him every second a car lenght it seemed, but yea, he wasn’t stock!! If the same guy I ran last year at around 900 wheel level he was only back 2-3 car lengths by 140 last run in. I’f it was same guy as last year I’m sure he knew I had made some changes lol as I was loosing him MUCH faster this time. I just had to keep pouring it on till I saw him lift finally, you know, the don’t ever try it again lesson lol.

If you are on a Hellcat site and are offended that a zl1 is a turd, you are on the wrong site:unsure:

5th Gen ZL1's are same thing as a CTS-V2...needing 620-630whp to pace a stock cat.

6th Gen ZL1's aren't exactly turds but are limited by the DI only injection system. Give em a port system and it tilts the scales real quick.

That said...both are uncomfortable as hell and everything is proportioned & angled wrong inside.

I was actually much more comfortable in a GT350 than a 6th Gen.

Ended up in a hellcat anyway. Lol.

ID1700XDS arrived yesterday and installed last night. Found A guy who needed to remove them from his track hawk and go back to 1300s because he moved to an area E Was not available at so I got an almost brand new set of 1700s for just trading him my 1300s, he even paid UPS next Day air freight for me to send him mine and he sent me his the same way, talk about finding a lucky clover lol. @jonx96 Provided me a quick as usual tune revision but unfortunately I got lazy last night after supper as it started to rain so there was no testing the start up tune, hopefully tonight. Thanks as always Jon!! hope you feel better soon!!

Well lesson learned on used injectors from an unknown source, I knew the deal of trading my like new 1300 for 1700’s sounded too good to be true. Soooo with winter here and finally pulling the Whipple over Thanksgiving weekend and sending it out I also sent the injectors to ID for a full check out, preclean data and after cleaned data, 3 injectors failed and where out of the 2% window :(. Now I know why my idle trims bank to bank where off, at least WOT flow was close so didn’t hurt engine at all. First thing ID asked me was “what filter you running?” Well I run a 5 micron microglass filter so the crap didn’t come from my system, I only put about 400 miles on the 1700’s. So $800 later I have a like new set of tighly matched injectors at least. Goes to show the importance of running a good filter, no wonder the guy was having a hard time trying to get them to idle right on gasoline.

They are going in like this to get their spread less than 1% per bank and the higher flowing group on the drivers side rail that probably sees a hair lower pressure then the passenger side feed rail.

Next performed a leak down test to see where it’s at, not much of a change since before the whipple but with the blower off I sprayed some WD40 on top the visible intake valves and noticed 7 and 4 intake valves bubbling a bit and since now at 25 psi of boost anything over 17 degrees of timing I’d get a air bubble in my Tstat housing, 16 degrees no air, 17 and above air, so sounds like the 8740 ARP studs are stretching under the cylinder pressure and heads lifting somewhere. Soooooo good time to pull the heads to replace studs with better ones, better head gaskets, a good valve job, hell port them while apart so off the Thitek their going. Plugs looked like they came right off of the boxes yet, amazing how clean alcohol runs!!

Soooooo, 1 head off 1 to go (that’s WD40 there on top the pistons, flooded them with it as even with draining the block via the block drain plugs and blowing the block out antifreeze still got on top the pistons so vacuumed it off and doused them with WD.

These came in the mail and gave me the get up and go enough to pull it apart. Some fancy ARP Custom Age 625 super duper head studs.

These along with new Cometic MLX gaskets should end that head lifting crap. Most every shop I talked to said after 20-21 psi of boost the regular 8740 ARP ones just don’t cut it. In removing the first head I tested stud nut torque before loosening them and found all at less then what I torqued them too, 112 ft lbs in 5 steps. 40, 75, 105, let sit over night, 108, sit again 112. They all moved at about 103-105 ft lbs and the 2 on the back side of the block fire wall side of #7 cylinder about 95 ft lbs, that was probably the source of the air getting in my coolant system. I knew I should have torqued them again after a few heat cycles but Cometic said not necessary. I’ve heard of a few people seeing this same thing and having to re-torque the nuts to end pushing air, going to a better stud is definitely the better choice though, they must have been seeing their yield point.

Soooo what else has been up? Ported a set of 2021 RE fuel rails today. Looks like they made a design change since the older ones I’ve done as the primary inlet does not have the major restriction anymore where the bung is welded on to the rail tube but the inlet is still rolled over to less then 3/8” ID so drilled them all out to match all that I have done previous but these went easier and quicker 214FDEAE-F86E-4CAE-BCBC-E5DF64D603AB.jpeg B1AE38B3-8FF3-4808-9CF6-A118CE713A76.jpeg 76248CC0-D6A8-44ED-896E-90455A7DB283.jpeg

And the Whipple finally returned yesterday!!! Yaaayyyyy. They replaced the complete compressor section and rotors with new parts, basically a new blower. Still a J Rev but they’re calling this one out as a Pinned model, Hmmmm. Did a quick inspection behind sealing it back up, rotors look a bit different and it has a scraping sound when rotated. I’ll post a video on it, sounds much worse in video but it doesn’t turn buttery smooth like a IHI blower does, no rattling at least. I called Whipple today and they told me that is the coating of the rotors rubbing and is normal and will run in and create an almost perfect seal, we shall see but unfortunately won’t know for at least 6-8 weeks till I’m running again :(
They even returned my super magnet drain plug in the new rear gear case :)
