Supercharger Teflon coating

I put a ported snout on my original supercharger which has about 53k miles on it. I noticed some of the Teflon coating was missing. How large of an issue is that? Can it be re applied?

That’s more than the Teflon worn off the rotors, your blower is either knocked out of time or you have bearing issues. The timing on the rotors is not fixed, it’s held in place just like the harmonic balancer is on the crankshaft, clamp load from a left hand thread bolt, now I see why IHI wants a clutch pulley on it. See the shaft to the left of the larger gear, it’s smooth, timing is held in place by a washer!! Probably to minimize overall damage if a component fails.

That's some kind of rubbing.

Yea, the rotors are touching, from the pattern looks to me it’s timing. Stock pulley? Looks trashed, to fix that the rotors have to come out, total tear down. If it where mine is look for a low miles replacement and junk it. The housing is probably good yet for someone like John Bond

Question, rotors look like this before you put the snout on or look like this after running a new snout for a while?

What kind of pulley are you running?

I would say that the bearings have gone bad on that Supercharger. You need a new one

This is the first time the ported snout has been put on. So not the ported snouts fault. Metco. The supercharger runs fine. Eventually I will buy a ported one from jokerz. I am going to stick with the 2.4. car is extremely fast with around 1k to the rear and more than that with the torque.

Yea, kind of figured a solid pulley. it’s not worth rebuilding so just run it until you get a replacement but be careful as if it has a catastrophic failure which breaks the housing the big ol intake valves are literally only 2” away, just one little piece down one and it’s game over.

2.50 pulley = overspinning. The rotors could be flexing.

If the case breaks any pieces get sucked right down into a valve, and big pieces can make it down one of these holes right underneath it. The blower case is pretty thin and easily cracked and broken. It’s happened before.

I remember that view when I first pulled the manifold off my 6.1 to put the blower on. No looking down the long intake port to get a glimpse of the valve. It's right there, clear shot into the cylinder. I was like....cool. LOL

Not cool if they suck up something at full song if the blower above it cracked it’s case and the suction from 8 ports below it, 4 on each side sucked in even a little chunk. There’s not much to the case. Think of a 5 lbs 3 lobe heavy ass rotor spinning 24,000 rpms intermeshing into a thin webbed 5 bladed rotor and they eat each other. You think this thin case is going to contain it? It’s my concern with rebuilding this blower on my own, no instructions no guidance, and winding it up to 20,000 rpms on top of my engine.

The case may look 1/2” thick but in all this honey combing its only 1/4” thick if that image.jpg
