So I installed my Mishimoto t-stat last weekend, it did throw a code on me. It seems to initially open at 177 or so, then once the car is fully warm and coolant is circulating but there is still air moving through it holds at 185 exactly. Obviously it spikes up when you are stopped and not in air flow. Anyone else use one and get the same result? I have always used Jet 180s in the past and they open initially just a little warmer and codes are much more rare with them. Thinking about switching over to the Jet, but I got the feeling that everyone thinks the Mishimoto is a higher quality unit? Which 180tstat do you use and why? How do they work for you???

While I haven't used either myself, I have seen at least some that reported quality issues with the Mishimoto.

BUT, like anything that gets reported on forums, there tends to be a hypersensitivity to the problem. i.e., like our S/C bearings, some are noisy, fewer have failed, but there are ~100,000 of various versions of our S/C out there too, so take these kinds of reports with large grains of rock salt.

Does the Mish. have an air bleed hole to release trapped air?

You have to change the fan settings in the ecm. Otherwise it's set to turn on around 220°?

If you don't have a tune normally the 180 will throw a code, mine did 2 years ago when I put it in. They run at 185, that is normal. I have a Milodon. Greene racing was tuning my Daytona and this is what he said to use. It is basically a small block thermostat. I did have to take the rubber gasket off the stock one and put it on it

How will the fan come on at lower temperatures? It's preset for the higher temperatures of the oem stat.
My fans turn on in the high 180s.

They won't that is one reason you need a tune to run it. It takes to long to get up to the temperature it is looking for and throws a code

Every failed one looked exactly the same, piston blew out and cocked to one side and it’s guts oozed out not letting it open.

What are you using now?
The one that opened and closed most consistently around 180, purchased from 3 different stores as 3 different brand boxes but all motorads inside each 471AC238-8BD7-4E3B-BF6C-B72AEB41B612.jpeg 7580B40E-85EC-4513-B9B6-B7DAB53E07C8.jpeg 4B04F0AB-403E-472F-A6CA-93D7431A8D92.jpeg box, all around 10$ each. I always test T stats before use, I bring them up to temp very slow and watch which one cracks first, get fully open first, and closes correctly then make a pick and return the others for refund lol.

These all have the little valve to be placed at 12 o’clock high. I don’t remember which store this one came from NAPA AutoZone or advanced auto but like I said they all three were Motorad hard to tell one from the other so it’s hard to tell which one went back in which box and went back to which store lol But again, all where 180 Motorads

Motorad makes most I've seen (including stant, motorad, napa, and jet for sure). I've run them successfully for a while, I've also seen them fail. Sometimes in very short time, sometimes they don't fully fail they seem to hang up, and the one in my scat pack was flawless for almost 2 years before failing shut completely. I started using the Milodon and have had much better luck. The only issue is the milodon does not come with the gasket, so you have to reuse the one in there.

I've had some throw codes, I've had some not. Its generally the P0125 "insufficient coolant temp for closed loop fuel control"

Always used Jet, in my 6.1 and 5.7.

Never any problems.

Used my Diablo Predator to calibrate the fan settings. I think there were 6, or 8 different data points. Only got a random code in these deep SoCal "winters".

I have a Milodon new in Pkg yet,it looks nothing like stock t stats and has no provision to cover the rear port in the t stat housing.
