Salt water is the worst, looks like there is rust starting already. Interiors will need to be totally gutted. Thankfully there is minimal electronics in these cars.
Superbird resting on it's roof & wing like that is going to be a huge issue, you can see where both rear quarters crumpled which means the interior supports are trashed.

If those were mine, and I was retired with seemingly that kind of cash, I would have taken a few days and a friend or 2 to move them northward out of harms way.

More info. Looks like the two affected cars were actually swept off the lifts and out the door!

Much as I hate to admit it, I can see where he thought they would be safe up on the lifts. Surge was clearly higher than anticipated. I'm guessing 'storm hardened' auto storage was not easy to come by in the short time he had to react to the storm jogging east & not going north as initially thought.

Wonder if chaining/strapping them to the lifts would have made any difference or just made a bigger mess ?

Never thought they could get uglier than they were from the factory, but that's pretty ugly. WTF were they left in the track of the hurricane for? Tired of owning them, need insurance money?

I would like to think not, being the case the remaining number of these cars are so low. I try to see the good side of folks, but I suppose anything is possible

I value them for their history, and their link to the past. And while I think they're ugly, I wouldn't have wanted them destroyed. Money is (I would suppose) no object for this guy, so I don't see why you couldn't drive them out of the storm area. To put them up on the lifts "in case the water gets 6 feet high" for me makes no sense at all. I just can't fathom it.

I mean at 6' high, it could easily push the entire shop apart. Water is incredibly powerful.

The forecast track was to the north (Tampa) literally 1 day earlier. Plus no where to really go on a 1ft sea level peninsula. On the east coast of Florida, in Daytona (300 miles away), they had 20 inches of rain and massive (freshwater) flooding from this storm. If we could predict the behavior of these beasts with pinpoint accuracy (and we weren't talking about a Florida landfall) I hear you. But we definitely can't (and it definitely was Florida). Mother Nature is a biatch that way...

Water is 830 times denser than air. I'll take the 130mph winds versus the 10 ft wall of water any day of the week.

It seems like those cars were “tributes”? That makes me think they are clones…but still a lot of money in the paint and special parts.

They are going for more than ever at the big auctions, way easier to just sell them if you want out then wrangle with insurance !

I saw that on one of the many posts on these cars. They look damn good for 'tribute cars', but it's possible they are.
The owner speaking on the vid clip makes reference to the production #'s, which makes me wonder ?!

I haven't followed any of this but I will say that if you have those cars and you lived where they did that you would of evacuated and taken them with you.

Agree. Talked with an owner of a condo at Daytona Beach yesterday. Shore is washed away, with $2m in damage/repairs due that insurance will not cover because it was a surge. Horrible and wildly not predictable. That guy tried his best given the conditions and forecast IMO. He did not purposely sacrifice those cars.

He is definitely "beach rookie" if he thought that those cars were safe. Storm surge anywhere near a hurricane, on a barrier island, is almost certain. It doesn't matter if they're in Ft Knox.

There's a reason that we no longer live on the beach. Killed my E550 in less than a year.

Yep, that salt water is a car killer. My brother's Ranger got wet in a hurricane and was a rust bucket in a year.

Anyone car shopping needs to be extra careful as cars flooded by the storm will all be 'cleaned up' and sold all across the country !!!

I highly doubt anybody down there left things of value in harms way purposely to collect insurance...
