Hellcat engine built for power but why the hell would they not put a keyway on the crank? This blows my mine.

Dodge wanted to know who was modding for warranty reasons.

We say "spinning isn't winning "
Pin the crank!

Thanks for the replies, and both cost and limiting the amount of stress on the crank damper makes sense. Coming from the Ford Mustang platform where NA cars had keyways just blows my mind.

Stock cars don’t have a problem.
Modified cars do.
Dodge didn’t pin them because they didn’t need them.

At what point do you think pinning is required? I have a stock SS and don’t plan on any mods at least not for until it is out of the extended warranty! Truly I don’t plan to race and 807hp is enough for me! It really is almost too much on the street.
min another decade or two I might have one of the rarest cars out there…unmodified!

I’ve always been told you want to know what the rarest Harley on the planet is? A completely stock one! True!!! Every Harley I know if has mods, including mine, it was modded before it left the show room with 3 miles on it!

You're saying easy job to pin the crank?
Depends on how squeamish you are. Worst part is taking the radiator fans out

You're saying easy job to pin the crank?
Yup, after all was said and done. I was more stressed over breaking the drill bit in the crank than anything else. Just go slowly, lots of cutting oil.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. You it's stock and good enough as it is guys that drive it like normal people you are probably good. However, the people I know who work those cars 2 to be exact have not removed one without some movement, So you do you. I'm not chancing it on a 20+k engine over a 50.00 pin kit

Seemed like I read on the old forum that guys with stock 707hp cars were even seeing some evidence of slipping?

I know of 2 personally that spun the crank pulley on stock cars. Both required new motors. Mike from OST has reported several with crank pulleys that had moved on the crank stock as well.

I'm not sure if things have improved over the years, but at least up to 2017 models I always recommended pinning the crank even stock. I agree it is easy, but can be stressful praying the bit doesn't break. I recommend a cobalt bit and cutting oil. That made quick work on mine. You'll also need a giant torque wrench and some muscles to get the new crank pulley to specified torque plus degrees.
