They haven’t come out and said what’s wrong, has the be blunt force and they’re making sure he doesn’t have brain issues and internal bleeding

All likely possibilities...

Really wish we'd get an update that's more substantive. The press releases they've released so far sound more like an advertisement for his career achievements than delivering any real news.

I saw him run just a few weeks ago in NH. If this had happened there, I would have had to stop attending live racing because I was also at the Ryan Newman 2020 Daytona 500 wreck. Will never forget that night.

My guess is John retires after this. He was so close to walking away on his own too :(

He hasn't made an official announcement.

If he did, it would be everywhere.

Force and John Medlen (crew chief and father of the late Eric Medlen) did a lot for safety for all of today's drivers after the unfortunate Eric Medlen death in 2007 which was a similar wall impact. That additional roll bar padding made to absorb harder hits and a tighter driver area had to help in this situatuion, I am wondering what went wrong as far as the chute never coming out with that explosion, was thinking that was a automatic thing now. Hope he makes a full and speedy recovery. The few years that I ran a national event in my super gas Challenger he was always personable and had time to shoot the breeze, great guy and ambassador to the sport and NHRA.

Definitely a significant concussion at the least. I don’t have any doubt that we saw the last run in a funny car for John Force. Plus it came just a week after he alluded to his retirement saying that Prock was going to be his replacement. I was thinking naybe that was because Hight might be back next year. Nobody has anything on what’s going on there. If he returns then he would be back in his car and Prock would move to John’s. Anyway…. The guy is the GOAT. I pitted next to him back in the early ‘80’s when I was doing the National event in PSB. The guy was always on fire. Even in the pits. 😂

One observation…. I watched the crash when it happened. At that speed, the impact was just tremendous. G-force had to be up there. That’s why even with the helmet and restraints, he suffered that injury. I worked as a FD Paramedic for 25 years. One of the things that is taken into account is what we called mechanism of injury. There’s this thing called a C-Collar. You don’t have to be a medic to know what I’m talking about. After he was removed from the wreck, he was on the gurney ready for transport. He was awake and moving around. No C-Collar in sight. WTF NHRA. He never would have been moved an inch without that collar and on a backboard with real medics present. It’s called protocol. They obviously don’t have any.

I’ll bet that once the air crew got him, they started actual trauma care. Blood pressure and ekg to monitor for internal bleeding. IV, O2 and spinal precautions. The so called “Safety” Crew at these events appear to be nothing more than basic EMT-1 trained. Better than nothing but… 🙁
