What kind of oil should I use in the HC??? LOL!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, my Wrangler specs 0w-20, the truck specs 5w-30.

Is there any reason NOT to use 0w-40 in everything? (Cost aside.)

Is there a compelling reason to use it in everything?

When I had my 5.7 replaced they put 0-w20 full synthetic in it. I looked up the part number and they started using that in 5.7s after 2022, but before then it says not compatible. Weird. 0-w20 full synthetic is what will be going on it from now on

I noticed higher oil pressure with the o-w20 on starts and when driving. When it gets hot it still dips down to 28-30s at idle

It’s the max full synthetic. Was listed for just the v6 for a while, and now they recommend it for the 5.7

I suspect mfr's lean toward low viscosity to reduce friction for a better mpg rating and sacrifice life. The engine only needs to get past warranty.

0-w20 is a full sybtegtic and more expensive than the semi 5w-30

Shouldn't oil viscosity be prescribed based on the climate and operating conditions of the engine?

As well as camshaft/lifter type, and arguably most importantly, oil ring type!

Thanks guys, but so far I don't see any posts suggesting a reason to use a more narrow viscosity range.

When I was a kid my father had a Texaco station and would bring home the purple 2-cycle oil and said use it in the 6hp Wheel Horse, the lawn mower, then later the 3.5 B&S on my mini bike. I was horrified, but it wasn't like I was going to spend my 50c/week allowance on better oil!

"Another oil thread... Is 0w-40 ok in everything?"

I was brought up with the understanding that only Olive Oil goes with everything.;)

I admit having one oil on the shelf would be nice! Right now I have 0W-20, 5W-20, 0W-40, 10W-30 and a mix of "special" oils for toys and the lawn mower...
I know only having one oil on shelf will never happen (unless everything goes out the door), but it would be nice!

Back in the day we had one oil, SAE30, except up north here we had 20-20w for winter. Oil changes were recommended every 6mo, almost no one did that, or even use the 20-20w. High mileage was 60k, few made it to 80k, it seemed only the GM Ultra High Compression could hit 100k.

On the other hand, my father owned many 383 2bbl's, he loved them because they required almost no maintenance. (Meaning he gave them no maintenance!)
