Title says it, this was the best study of gear oils I’ve ever come across, even the validity of it is notarized. I’ve used Amsoil Severe Gear for a long long time, I used Royal Purple Max Gear in my last new Diff installation because it was buy one get one free and Amsoil is a 30 mile one way drive to get. That Diff started making noise going around turns just 2500 miles in, now I know why. I Just installed a brand new 3.90 Diff last night, anyone want to guess which oil is going in it? Sorry Royal Purple fans, I won’t be using it ever again.

Yes very detailed analysis and lengthy so I'll shorten the read and post the conclusion..

"As the testing indicates, AMSOIL Severe Gear ranked highest among all gear lubes tested. It was the only gear lube to score a 4 or better in all performance categories. The high ranking of AMSOIL Severe Gear clearly points to a well-balanced formulation capable of delivering effective, long-lasting lubrication protection to all differential components. Most notable is the superior performance of AMSOIL Severe Gear in the critical areas of extreme-pressure protection and viscosity and oxidation stability. Based on the performance testing, the slightly higher than average price of AMSOIL Severe Gear would be offset by the cost savings achieved through reduced maintenance, longer lasting differentials and extended lubricant life."

I really like Amsoil for my engine. Was thinking on using it for gear oil, but have always used Redline. Been using Redline since the 90's

Most if not all oils haven’t changed much since then.

I was having terrible issues blowing belts on my turbo sled last year. Looking at how the belt broke it was from heat. I switched to amsoil in the chain case and temps went down significantly. Chain case is pretty similar to diff fluid.
I have never ran amsoil engine oil.

Is the friction modifier already in it? The Redline stuff you can get with it and without. I normally did a mixture of the 2

M1 in the motor, Mopar in the trans and I'll be trying motul in the diff in the spring. I've ran everything from mopar to redline to valvoline and back and this 2.62 just whines like a banshee...but it's still in one piece so I'll just send it til it won't send no more.

Always usually end up adding about 1-2oz more no matter what the bottle says.

Very few ever have enough mixed in from the factory.

The only reason you put it in is so you don't get chatter. I'm yet to ever hear any is why I ran as little as possible. You don't want it slipping

I don't know if ours are clutches or springs. On the 8.8 fords we packed the clutches as tight as possible (kit comes with shims) to help it lock better. The modified was for turning if the clutches chattered to help them slip

Origjnal Diff I ran it in I put 2 oz of the Mopar stuff in it. The last Diff I ran on just straight RP Max Gear, it has slip additive in it already.

This brand new 3.90 Diff is starting life on the Amsoil 75w90 Severe Gear and 2oz of the Mopar Friction Modifier. Filling it tonight, putting P4D back on, exhaust system and it’s HELL time lol.

How long you had the oil? Looks like it is in bags now. Think the bags will make it way easier to put in. I was going to put an order in for lube and oil but they don't have the oil filters so I'm waiting
