Hmm, I recently bought a 5 gallon PNR tank that was still in the box it came in.

Pulled it out to take a look and this is how they rigged it up.

Imagine my surprised just now when I pulled the hose off the fitting that went into the tank.

The pump inlet does appear to to take an an orb or oringed fitting of some sort.

I guess it beats the other method of using a ton of filler to try and seal it up when you don't have a proper orb fitting to go into it.

Wow! So no orb fitting and they just clamp a hose over it 🤣. Thanks for pulling that Z and for the pics! Gives me a few ideas. Really appreciate it!

For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure the Davies pump inlet was designed to take both a really large an orb fitting screwed into it or a hose clamped around it like in the pictures above. They sell adapters so that you can clamp even larger hoses onto it on either end for use with engine cooling systems with larger radiator hoses.

I only know this from researching what I would have to do to convert to an electric water pump setup over the factory mechanical one.

It also looks like the fitting on the tank are ground down, so it’s more of just something to clamp on to

Yep, I’ve seen the large screw in hose fittings for radiator hose

Pretty sure this is what they use to direct mount it with a lot of paste when not using the barb

I don’t like the O-ring thing in this case. You have to clock the pump. That most likely means that the O-ring will be under or over tightened. The rubber hose looks better from a vibration point. Looks cheesy but from a what works point, probably the better choice.

I agree with Mark below. Looks half assed but has 2 good reasons why they did it that way.

Cut it the fuck off and have an AN fitting welded in. This is asinine, fact that PNR does this makes me never want to touch their products. It's 2023, AN fittings are king.

It’s strange that PNR used to direct mount them to the tank. I bet they had pump /housing failures, which is why they switched to a piece of hose
