Ongoing Uconnect 5 issues, and now this ...

To catch everyone up ...
  • orig screen/radio replaced when SRT Pages permanently disappeared after a software update (FIXED)
  • one of the vent trim pieces was broken off after the new screen was installed, so I just glued it back on (FIXED?)
  • Voice Recognition (VR) just crashed, when pressing the VR or Phone steering wheel buttons I just hear static (BROKEN)
  • now the NAV screen is stuck in "night mode", making it useless in daylight hours, and the dead VR killed the turn-by-turn prompts (BROKEN)
This has got to be one of the most erratic infotainment systems I've ever dealt with.
I did a factory reset on the unit, nothing changed.

Anyone else having this much fun? Or am I the only lucky winner of Dodge's electronic gremlins?

That’s just unlucky! All mine have been trouble free in 4 vehicles since 2013[dunno]. 2013 Charger Daytona, 2016 Charger HC, 2018 JGC and 2021 JzGC. Crossing my fingers that it stays that way.

What model year screen is this in what model year car?? Did you replace it for an upgrade or did your original fail?
I bought a used 2022 DSRT last year that has the Uconnect 5 Nav 10.1 Inch Display.
  • The original radio received a routine software update and Performance Pages disappeared forever
  • Dealer tried to reformat the radio, but it wouldn't take so they ordered a new one
  • New radio was installed and Performance Pages returned (but they broke a vent trim piece in the process)
  • Now the Voice Recognition (VR) doesn't work (no "beep" signaling the radio is ready for a voice command)
  • The NAV maps have suddenly got stuck on Night Mode (which makes them unreadable in the daytime)
  • Because VR doesn't work, NAV won't let me call out a destination while I'm driving (I have to stop the vehicle and type it in manually)
  • It's not a mic issue, because when I tried using Apple Car Play (don't really care for it) I see the screen is showing what I'm saying
Seriously, I've about had it with Uconnect 5.

Got a ‘18 GC. They had to replace the unit due to the screen delam- common no problem. Always works fine.

‘19 REWB - not a problem. Ordered without NAV and have never agreed to add any app or program, never seen it update shit.

‘23 Durango. Works like a charm. Love its system a lot.

It's crap software and you're not alone !

They broke 2 of the gauges on the Perf. Pages in '15 - '17 Hellcats and never corrected the error, not to mention how agonizingly slow those systems are.
FCA, Dodge & Uconnect basically flipped us all the finger & refused to fix the software (even tho a 10 yr old could have 'fixed' the tiny code error) despite tons of on-line complaints, calls to all 3, Star Cases etc.

My '18 DD R/T (this was actually across all models) came with a defective GPS that at times had me driving in the middle of a lake (and the weather system popping up lake wind/wave warnings !!). Took me 6 weeks to get them to cancel the free trial & make it go away, was over 6 months for them to correct the issue & roll it out to all '18 owners.

Then the screen de-laminated & had to be replaced.

Didn't have my '23 DDSRT for long, but there were minor (but annoying) glitches right out of the gate - like it starting on a random screen, sometimes home, or the last screen I used or blank or a menu. Other issues and random errors were creeping in, but I was deep into the buy-back & never bothered to mention it to the stealership.

How did you do the factory reset?
It's available in the screen menu under Vehicle Settings.
Once there, scroll down to bottom to Reset.
There's different options, from Factory Reset to just resetting certain things.

While I don't use VR or the built in Nav, all 3 of mine are fine, maybe I have problems I don't know about?
Press the VR button or the Phone button on the steering wheel. If you hear a "beep", then that means it's functioning.

Mine doesn't "beep".

Okay, if you're trying to scare me ... it worked!

Thing is, I really like this vehicle. It took me a year to locate one that met my criteria, runs like a champ.

Thing is, I really like this vehicle. It took me a year to locate one that met my criteria, runs like a champ.

But this constant, never ending issue with Uconnect 5 is taking away from the ownership experience.
I hear ya !! I was bitterly disappointed in my '18 & the issues right out of the gate, but loved it after the problems went away.
My Mustang was huge disappointment on many fronts, but I have to say I did like their SYNC system. It was glitch free and superior in every way to the Uconnect crap.

What's strange is some seem to have few issues and for others it's a PITA, not sure why that is. Since you like the vehicle, hopefully you can persevere thru getting the bugs worked out of your particular system.
