Went for a drive today and washed when I got home. 17,100 miles total. Good times with this beast.

Ok funny story, my Barton shifter I ordered will be here tomorrow. I’m so excited, ready see the night and day difference and how bad ass this thing really is. So I start taking apart everything today to get it ready, and low and behold

This actually a good thing. You have the much more uncommon Barton that uses the original shifter base. Most buy the linkage with the Barton shifter and it works only with the Barton shifter. So your stuck with that whether you like it or not. This gives you a lot more options. Any handle style that works with stock shifter will work with it and you have the Barton guts and precision. You could go stock shifter for stealth or originality (which is what I did for a while) or swap for custom. I have a super rare out of production factory pistol grip (NOT the bent one that looks like the early 70's and doesn't fit your shifting position correctly) with carbon fiber handle or black handle depending on what I want with original looking shifter pattern font on top. I then custom fit this universal Hurst shifter and custom made ball to match my Hurst rims, which is on the car now.
This is on my '09 SRT8 not my RE.

So I'm about to send back this beautiful new Barton shifter, but before I do, are there any improvements from the old type to the new type? Sometimes I get quite a notchy 1-2 shift and was wondering if this was normal for all Barton models?

They are at least on Version 2

It says it right on the support legs.

They've improved the geometry of the shifter.

As opposed to "notchy", I would call it either finicky or precise, but neither intended to communicate troublesome.

I don’t know how old mine is as I bought it used about 1.5 yrs ago. Mine isnt notchy but I do get that bs 2nd gear lockout if upshifting from 1st to 2nd at light throttle.

FYI, that's internal to the transmission, not within the shifter.

I get that on occasion as well. When i say notchy I mean sometimes (under light throttle now that you mention it) I have to pull it hard to the left and down on the 1-2 shift and sometimes it clicks twice before it falls into gear after passing the middle of the shift pattern on the 1-2.

So I’m going to sell my old one on here soon for a good price. You can see where a few of those tiny Allen heads backed out of the bottom. Had fun time installing if nothing else

The method I had watched on You Tube was dry install. The way these grabbed I’m thinking the should have been done wet. I thought it looked pretty straight forward. I ended up with air bubbles which I couldnt do anything with. I’ll have them installed at a graphic shop when the new ones come in.
These were the factory Mopar carbon fibre kit.
Smart move...let the pros do it

So what's the story of how you came to forget that you installed a Barton and bought a second one? :unsure:
I bought it used in 2018 and it had a stock knob and stick on it. Mine is the only hc m6 I’ve ever driven so I assumed it was stock. Experienced what I call notchy on some of the shifts, and since I already feel a slight disadvantage with a manual I was wanting to maximize that aspect. Wasn’t until I started pulling out the console I realized “hey look you already have a Barton.” At that point I figured people spend a shit ton of money on a few tenths and I could prob/might get that by putting on this newer gen3. Plus by this time the new one had been delivered and Barton wasn’t answering my emails or returning my phone calls about a return (covid related I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt)

Are you talking about the 'skip shift' lockout? Cause that's a real easy and cheap fix. Just a small @$15 wiring harness that piggy backs into tranny harness and your done. THE first mod on my '09 SRT. That sh&* drove me crazy.
