Start thinking about sizing rings. Here’s the new WISECO custom piston mated with a Trend H13 .250 wall DLC pin to a Manley H-Tuff 4130 rod compared to a stock piston and rod combo.
Add Torque Plate, THANKS @Hpindy so rings can be sized in bores just as they where when torque plate plateau honed to 4.0925 bore. Made a custom ring squaring tool so with tq plate installed the rings can be perfectly squared in the bores 1”down from the deck as Total Seal wants for them to be sized to .028” gap on both top and second rings.
Been a long day, time for block to get some rest and hopefully start sizing rings in the morning. There’s 5 per cylinder (top, second, oil ring top and bottom, oil ring groove support ring) to do, 40 total so this process is going to take a while.

First thing to do, make this cheapo ring filer easier to use!! This makes hands free control GREAT and controllable!! Tested on a old ring first, works GREAT!!
Ok, all the rings are gapped, target was .026” on top and second ring, .018” on the oil rings. I pushed the top ring down to mid cylinder and bottom cylinder and was elated to find gap didn’t change on most and the ones that did was less then a .001” on gap which means less then .0003” on bore which is just what dozens of measurements with a bore gauge told me it was. Torque Plate honing is worth the pain.
I need to get my wife making potions like yours does but my shops off limits to her LOL, she’d break something, throw something away, or find something she shouldn’t 😂
I thought about using them, actually was going to but Keith at Total Seal didn’t recommend them for my application, (yea, I couldn’t believe that?? Even called 3-4 times over the months and got the same recommendation from him- use gas ported rings) he recommended Gas Ported Rings over them for some reason which mainly was about wanting some ring lubrication from tiny vacuum a gap provides to pull oil to in between the rings. He also mentioned Something about the volume of the area below the pistons and crank is very small in these engines. Ring lubrication is why in the hone spec the Rvk value was high at around 50 to trap oil in the valley’s left by those deep “scratches” per say. After talking to about 2 dozen pro’s about the pro’s and con’s of each ring kind I just went with tried and true everybody agreed can’t go wrong with a high quality Total Seal AP normal ring set. It wasn’t about gapping them, You still have to gap gapless rings, in fact there’s 2 per ring you have to gap!!
