The spindle route the only problem I had going back together was that little sleeve that aligns the spindle to the control arm (? I think it was). Once I figured out it needs to be pushed flush with the spindle, and then when you re-tighten the through bolt is pushes the sleeve back in place it went pretty quick.

I guess I just hate messing with taking all that apart then the realignment back.
And since I've done so many diffs I find it easy.
There’s always more then one way to skin a cat lol

I bought a 21mm ratchet wrench just for those horizonal bolts, really fast.
Since I have done about 7 diff swaps for me & friends, that wrench has paid for it self many times over. Floor jack under diff, drop vertical bolts first, then the horizonal ones & the diff can be slid forward as you loosen them because they will bottom out on the trunk sheet metal.
Just did the DIRS on mine yesterday, and as @Speedy! said saw the horizontal bolts and what a bit^& it would be to get to. I could see only way to make adjustment (DIRS main rear brace bolt simply would not line up!) was to move the rear or modify the brace. I "clearanced" the main brace hole slightly and bolt barely made it. But now that you've talked about the 21mm ratchet wrench and other tips, I have info for future use on maybe a 3:09 swap. Thanks.

Don't sweat it. It isn't as bad as it sounds. A friend just to help watch things makes it easier

Glad to help as others are too, but I'm telling you that 21mm ratchet wrench is sweet & fast on those bolts where other wise your sitting there doing 1/4 turns all the way out & back in, & their long bolts. If you need any tips to do diff swap ? just PM me, be glad to help.

I love all my ratchet wrenches & cordless ratchet. :LOL:

Ratchet wrenches are the only ones in my drawer.
Now, there are 10 other drawers full of wrenches, but they aren’t my favorites like the ratcheting kind.
Also amazing tools that don’t get enough credit… the extension bars that you can hook an impact or air ratchet to and it’ll spin the other end - referred to as “off-set extension wrench”… I never bought one, and now I need to hit “buy now”.

Ratchet wrenches are the only ones in my drawer.
Now, there are 10 other drawers full of wrenches, but they aren’t my favorites like the ratcheting kind.

It is nice to have the right tools for the job, or faster tools.

RE Challenger's are famous for an overlapped frame and thick weld seam to boot. Earlier Hellcats didn't have that problem. The bolt head flange and washer on the rear main bolt is the only thing holding the two halves of the DIRS brace together when torqued to 90lbs. The bolt shank does nothing but act as a rubber band when torqued and shouldn't even touch the sides of the hole. Its not a machined for a tight fit even from the manufacturer. The shank should have clearance all around. The "clearance" was clean cut and polished with head porting tools not a hacksaw. The bolt head and washer are flush and square with full surface area of clamping force applied. I assure you...I'm no butcher.

When I dropped mine, I had to shave down the thickness of the wrench I used (belt sander).

Can you link exactly which wrench you got? There are many, some that have a reversing switch (seems no good) and some that pivot as well.

Obviously the one you got fits up in there. Once you've loosened that bolt, does it get trapped up in there?

I was suppose to get mine today BUT, you know how USPS is, famous for being late. :rolleyes:

It's not a pivoting head, it's a straight wrench. I have a regular combination 21mm wrench to brake the bolts loose then I put the ratchet one to work.
The wrench will not get trapped if you take out the vertical bolts first so you can slide the diff forward as you loosen the horizonal bolts.
Obviously the DS has to be off at the diff to slide it forward. ( on a floor jack )

The name on it is "Gear Wrench" from NAPA auto.
The regular one is Duralast from Auto Zone.
